Sophie is a 2x AML (acute myeloid leukemia) warrior. She was first diagnosed at just 19 months old. She went on to spend about 180 days inpatient fighting aml for the first time. A year to the day later that she was first discharged from the hospital she was admitted again to start her second fight against AML. This time she was looking at a harder battle by needing a bone marrow transplant. She completed two cycles at our home hospital with doing 60 days inpatient for two cycles and then we made the move up to Seattle to start her bone marrow transplant process. Sophie received her new cells on 8/29/23. Her rebirthday! After her bone marrow transplant Sophie suffered from severe mucositis and developed VOD - a Life threatening complication from a BMT. She spent 16 days in the PICU fighting VOD and won yet again. She spent a total of 50 days inpatient for her transplant and is now recovering from her transplant and will be starting a year of maintenance chemo to hopefully keep her cancer free FOREVER.
